Default 1914 lost reverse

Working on a nice 1914 that has been sitting a while, changed fuel lines and installed new front tires, ran fine, drove it around and after it went home backed off trailer and mowed good. Started up later and no reverse. Forward is fine. Drained hyd. fluid, looked ok but only about four quarts. Haven't cut open filter yet. New filter on order. Any suggestions? Manual on the way. thanx steve

Sounds like you have a problem with one of your Relief (Check) valves. As a suggestion, pull this valve out, clean it up real good, make sure the plunger has free travel, blow it out real good, then re-install. If that don't work, then I would suggest replacement.

Roland has already diagnosed the problem and remedied the situation quite well. Nice job, like always, Roland! It may be obvious, but I just wanted to put a reminder your way to clean around your relief valves before removal as to prevent any gunk from falling down into your hydrostatic fluid. Also, I had a 125 that had sat for quite some time outside, so after removing the relief valves I poured about a cup of hytran into the hole before replacement.

Wouldn't a 1912 have auto release valves?
I don't know much about that model.

Yes, they should be the auto type. I would remove them and put them back in the opposite hole. Then see how it works. If you loose forward speed pull them both and send them to:
