Default Spirit of 76 cub cadet

I always said once I got an original and restored it I wouldn't buy any more. Well I got my original and restored it and it is loaded with creeper, sleeve hitch, headlights, fenders, brinly adapter, etc. Last night I saw in a local ad a Spirit of 76 lawn tractor advertised for 400. I am going to look at it today. It is actually just a plain 76 and it has been painted like the spirit of 76 and in very good condition. I am not familiar with the lawn tractors ih made and was wondering if anyone could let me know if this is worth 400. It would be a nice addition to my collection. I would think it almost impossible to find an original tractor like this since there was a very limited edition of the made. Any information or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Earl

EWiliams...The only difference between a regular Model 76 and an SO76 is the paint & decals. There is a serial number sequence peculiar to the SO76's. If you can get the serial number and post it or email it ot me, we can determine if it's genuine or not. Mine is shown below.

Is yours a genuine? The guy told me this one was a regular 76 and he painted it and added the decals. He did an excellent job. Is there any value to these? He wants 400. for it

Hmmm.. Only the Model SO76's had that white seat and expecially the white steering wheel. Both could be installed on a regular 76, but first you have to find them..Try that sometime...

Yes, mine is a genuine Model Spirit Of 76, by serial number.

Let's get the serial number of the one being offered. If it's genuine, it's worth the price being asked IMHO. If it's not a genuine IH produced SO 76, then the price is just the call of the buyer....It will always have good curiosity/tractor show value, but Collectors pay premium prices only for the genuine ones in my experience.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
