The lift rod on my 60's sears snow blade is not the right length and I'm hoping to find a source to get a 9/16" in diameter steel rod, with ends bent away from each other (S-shape?) and 9" length from center to center of each end. Can anyone help? I tried shortening the one I have but no way in heck can I bend that rod 90 even with a vice, torch, and big hammer.

Ha, he fixed my snow blower pulley.
I also might just do a threaded turnbuckle body with ball ends- then bolt it to the blade lift. Then it'll be adjustable and cost will be about $30 in parts.

If you have one that is too long, how about cutting out the extra in the middle and welding it back together?

That should work! Those sears blades are bad for the linkage wearing out and only lifting and inch off the ground, I have one that does that.

I hope so. Once I get the length right, I'm going to tighten it down and powder coat or paint it.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
