Default 1650 wants to stall when hot
Hi guys...

Last year I picked up a 1650 which is my primary mower. Sometimes (not always...) the engine seems to want to stall when it gets hot. It will be running fine and then seem like it's not getting gas. When I let off the throttle, it seems to recover. Sometimes, it seems like it is ready to stall out and then will recover on its own. It will run for a few seconds and then do it all over again. Any thoughts as to what the problems might be...???

Could be any of a couple different problems. First and most likely is a fuel restriction of some sort--either at the tank (not vented, debris plugging the outlet) or in the carb (float mis-adjusted or fill valve not opening) or carb jets plugged (dirt from carb bowl) or not adjusted properly. The other possible or less likely could be a bad condenser or coil, loose plug wire, worn or fouled plug, loose ignition wire vibrating.

Try this, next time it starts to stall, pull the choke out some. If that helps, then you've got a fuel supply issue.

Default Sawdustdad...thank you...!!!
Just a public "thank you" to Sawdustdad for the prompt and valuable reply to my initial post. I had two tractors that were giving me stalling problems and he correctly diagnosed a blockage in the fuel delivery system (dirty fuel caps that needed venting). It never entered my mind that such a simple problem could be such a pain in the arse...I blew compressed air into the vent holes of the caps and the problem disappeared...!

Thanks again for the great advice and prompt response...!!!

Can't take much credit, I was just on line at the right time. Everything I know I learned from J-Mech and Sam Mac... Oh, And Yosemite Sam, and drlinski, and IHCubcadet, and darkminion17, and .... well, you get the picture.
