How bad is the end of the driveshaft that goes into that part? Your driveshaft may be shot. Now would be a good time to rebuild the whole driveline if needed.

The rear bushing is probably shot too.

The shaft was pretty bad, so ordered another to replace. Since this is a new purchase, I am looking at it pretty hard to see what may have been neglected over time.

Are your rubber mounts and the fan in good shape as well? If I ever pull the shaft I normally replace the spirol pins at the same time. Not trying to spend your money for you, this is just one of those times where a proper repair job can get pricey. The good side of the situation is you won't have to go back into the driveline for a long time. I've pulled drivelines and the only thing salvageable was the fan.

I think the only thing that is worth saving is the fan, everything else is suspect, so I agree with you.... when in doubt replace. I think I might do a quick degrease as well so that I am able to keep an eye on things a little better.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
