When I tightened the steering on my 1250, I used the method that Sawdustdad described. In doing so, I used a fine thread bolt, making the squeeze a little easier. Really, it didn't take too much to get the channel squeezed back into the correct spacing. Here is a better description of the job. http://cubfaq.com/axlepivot.html

Be sure to get a new pin. The pin is available from the sponsors and is a Cub Cadet part. At this time, it is a good idea to replace your tie rod ends on both the steering drag link and the tie rod.

Be sure that the grease zirc is properly working on your axle and regularly grease the pivot.

I believe that I ordered this one several years ago from my Cub Cadet dealer back before they stopped selling parts for these "old" ones. Now they pretty much carry parts for the new style tractors and not too many of them. I think the theory on the new ones is that you run 'em until something wears out or breaks, then scrap 'em and buy a new one.

I'd check with Cub Classics to see if they have them - I've had great luck scoring NOS or equivalent parts through him.

Still have the old one? I can make those. I already have a NF axle pin to copy.

Yes, I'm pretty sure that I still have the old one. Do you want it? Keep in mind that it may be worn down a thou or two.

Yes I would like it. The wear doesn't matter as it would be a stock size. I need it to put the features in the correct places.

Shall I PayPal you funds for postage cost? Or you want credit towards parts?

Jeff,

Don't worry about it. It'll be my contribution to keeping these fine old machines running.

Just e-mail me your address and I'll get it in the mail.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
