Thanks. I'm not sure what brand the stripper is but is works much quicker than sanding and scraping.

Love these types of threads. I am new here (and to cubs) but have spent a lot of time on MTF and other ''green" sites. I dont know about VanSickle in cub colors, but compared to real JD paint, its not even in the same ball park, and doesnt hold up nearly as well either. Its your call, but I have seen it over and over again, and done comparisons myself. Your doing a lot of work to be using inferior paints.

Excellent.
I wish I could get pictures that good. Adam, Novice speaking here....if you are going to blast the parts before painting, why is stripper used too? Thanks.

I'm still undecided on what paint I want to use. I was thinking of the Vansickle just because I can get it easily and it's inexpensive. The Majic brand I used on my 129/149 took a long time to dry even with hardener.
I've been using stripper to save time and blast media. I also want to avoid the possibility of warping the sheet metal from blasting.

The engine lives again! I did have a dumb@$$ attack and tried starting it with the +coil wire hooked to the negative post on the battery. A coil doesn't work too well with no power going to it. Doh! Once I realized my wiring oops, it fired right up. Now, I can clean it up and shoot some primer on it.
![]() ![]() Started working on the hood. I had planned on trying to find a better hood but decided to go ahead and fix mine since the chances are pretty slim of finding a 50 yr old hood that doesn't need work.

I'm almost certain I'm gonna use CaseIH paint. I've not heard any negative comments about it from anyone here who's used it. May stop by the PPG dealer and price a lower end auto single stage paint too.
Today, I worked on the tower a little with a hammer and dolly to straighten a couple spots. Made a few patches to fill some extra holes too. Ammeter gauge hole. My bad. ![]() Switch hole and start of hole sawed spot. PO mod. ![]() Mystery hole below key switch. PO mod.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
