The PTO on my 1440 needs to be replaced. I had it in to the dealer to check it out and they told me it was shot. They had removed it for me so I got a good look at it. It looks like there isn't much involved to replacing it. Looking for some help:
1. Is it as straight forward as it seems? 2. The part is close to $400 from the dealer. I find used on eBay for $125. I find a new one on eBay for $180 from High Torque Series. I am not familiar with them. Any recommendations when it comes to their parts? I was looking at simply listing the tractor on Craigslist for $2-300 and getting rid of it. But if I can do the job for a couple hundred dollars, I may just fix it. Then I am not sure what I will do with it, but at least it is running well and the PTO would be working. The engine covers are not in great shape so it isn't the prettiest tractor. Thanks for your help, guys.

![]() It is pretty straightforward to do. Slide over shaft, bolt on, and plug in the wiring harness. Violla, done. As for which one to get, Sam should be along shortly to suggest the best place to source the part. He buys them from an eBay store but I can't remember what it is at the moment. Good luck!

These are the guys I buy from.
http://xclutches.ecomitize.com/ Putting a new PTO on is a very simple job. The instructions come in the box with the PTO from the guys I listed. I don't buy through Flea Bay I just call them on the phone.

I've purchased from this place with good luck and only $8 shipping. I like the looks of the place Sam provided and shipping is free. They do indicate out of stock however.

If you take the Cub part # and do a google search PPowersales comes up on e-bay, this is the same guy I posted about and they show as in stock. Just call them and save all the Flea Bay crap. Here is an example of a search for a 1440 clutch.
717-3375 http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/2515474...lpid=82&chn=ps 717-3389 http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/2715115...lpid=82&chn=ps Go to the Cub parts site or parts tree, find your part number then get on Google and put in "Cub Cadet "partnumber" " and see what comes up. Example (Cub Cadet 717-3375) and you'll get a bunch of people selling replacement PTO's one of them will be PPowersales AKA http://xclutches.ecomitize.com/

Those look cool too!
I might buy one of these just to put on the shelf because it looks so good. I went to the Cub.cadet site and they showed something crazy like $500 for a PTO clutch and they don't look as good as this one.

Thanks, guys. Your help was just exactly what I was looking for. I believe I am going to purchase the part and install it. Then I will have 3 Cub Cadets, and have to figure out what to do with all 3. Good problem to have.

They don't fail often enough to warrant "stocking" them. I haven't had an electric PTO failure on any of my equipment..... EVER, in the last 20 years.

Jon,
That may be true but I've never seen one that looks that good. If I were to get one I would have to remove the grill so I could see it!!! ![]() If I got one I would probably add a chrome high rise exhaust, some chrome hubcaps.....on second thought, I don't think I'll start down the chrome road. It's good to have a couple sources for PTOs for less than $200.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
