Indeed, I just have 5 hours on this mower and it operates great and it ran great before this. I have cleaned the rear and have new Hytran. With the engine cleaned and ignition repaired I should be good for many years. Also the person I bought this mower from bought a green machine. He told my friend at work that he wished he had not sold the 1864, but I am glad he did.

Could be the kill wire. That wire is known to get damaged and ground to the block. I'd disassemble before ordering a coil.
I agree 100% but
I would think a grounded mag kill wire would kill both outputs, not just one cylinder, maybe one plug wire pulled out of it?
but every day I learn new things!
I'll bet you find a lot of "junk" keeping the mag from receiving proper cooling.BTDT as we all have.

I got my 1864 back together today. It runs great now. The right side coil was bad. It purrs like a kitten now. I also replaced the left side coil. The ends were frayed and when I removed it I found that it was hitting the flywheel till it made its own clearance. Here is a picture:
