Default 1450 The results are sparking!

Hi All,
I recently picked up a 1450 from a friend, he stated he thought that it needed a new starter. I installed a new battery and it runs great. Fast forward two weeks and I noticed that it sounds as if the battery is getting low on charge. Tonight I checked voltage while running at the battery and it is at 13.59 volts seems right. the throttle cable quits, so i remove the side panel and prior too me changing the mounts i notice that the throttle and choke cables have worn into the engine tin work behind the flywheel and the choke cable is arching against the tin. I moved the cable away from it, shut it down and upon trying too restart I notice that the choke cable is now arching at the dash on the outside near the steering wheel. Any suggestions on where too start. A quik once over and I didnt notice any wires even close too the choke cable. Could it be a bad ground by chance? Any opinions are appreciated.

Thanks, Mike

There is supposed to be a #8 wire from the bolt on the starter mount leading to the chassis.

Is that missing!!??

Thanks Cadplans,
I will check that but I only noticed one wire on it and it was part of the wiring harness.
I'll check that tomorrow.

Thanks, Mike

2 of mine have a 8 inch wire from the starter mount to the bolt holding the grill shell. It is not in a harness bundle.

If the dash is fiberglass, I think arcing to ground thru the choke/carb cable makes sense. (ISO mounts do more than insulate from vibration!)

I agree!! The choke cable would give off a nice glow during starting for a while!!

I had the same exact issue on rebuild. Per some recomendations here, i ran a ground from the starter bolt straight back to the negative terminal on the battery.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
