That's for the charging system. Not going to affect the ignition system. If it was bad, and leaking AC voltage, you'd be frying batteries, coils and condensers left and right.

Yes, I've replaced the condenser & coil with new. The points were fairly new when this started last summer, but I did pick up new points & plug today ... not to be throwing parts at it, but it's due for those anyway, and they're cheap ... so I can eliminate them until it warms up to do more.

It's been sub zero around here, and ice everywhere, so it's not convenient to run it around and get it into "shut down" mode, to check the spark. That's why I'm getting all the info. I can from you guys online while I'm stuck inside.

J Mech, thanks for your input, and your thoughts about the plug wire, regulator, etc. It helps to rule them out. I always appreciate reading your posts - because they always seem to make sense.

Josh

Here's a pic of the perpetrator, from last weekend. Aside from the stalling out routine, it's been plowing snow like a beast this winter, even without my chains. Surprised me what it will do.

Good looking 1000! I bought a cheap coil a few years ago mowed three times and it quit. I remember dad replacing the coil On the 1200 once too and the new one from napa was bad. You'll just have to wait till you t dies and test for spark.

The Bosch 00012 blue coil has a good reputation for quality and durability, I used it to replace the old one that died on my 1450. No troubles since. Of course, the price more than doubled on Amazon since June when I bought it.

Thanks J4C11, that's good to know. Seems a lot of folks are saying they've gotten bad coils out of the box from NAPA, so I guess that could have happened to me.

Any coil can be bad out of the box.

I had issues I thought were temperature related too. Replaced the coil with the right one from NAPA and moved on. Turned out I shouldn't have moved on because the new coil was bad. I finally got another coil (same model) and all was well. IIRC a coil can work well at some temps and when the temp changes it can cause something inside to loose it's connection.

Thanks again guys. I'm hoping to get time to work on it again this weekend. I'll update when I get it figured out.
Thx for the schematic DX3 ... good to have, I bookmarked it.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
