While waitin' for a PTO, been looking at the service manual and diagrams.
Something just isn't clickin' in this old head. Anyone care to share a picture of an installed PTO on a '95 CCC 1641 16 hp Briggs & Stratton engine? ![]() Right now, this is all I can see looking thru the grill opening. I can see the plug (wire) where the PTO will plug in.

# 3 should be on your engine below the muffler. It keeps # 1 from rotating.
#2 is a spacer, it slides onto the crank shaft between the engine and #1. #6,7,+8 hold #1 on the crank.

I am betting one of the 3 corners of the PTO will sit in the notch.

OK, the top of #1 will fit below #3. # 3 is nothing but a 90 degree bent piece of sheet metal. # 3 is bolted to the front of the engine. Its only purpose is to stop #1 from rotating. The green area on #1 will fit below the green lip on #3. I've seen #3 bent from a PTO bearing failure. Take the grill off and post a decent pic. and I will be able to help you with more info.

Tank man,
Here is the PTO you are getting. The key is inside the PTO bore, Assembly is spacer, pto, bolt, and washer, the stud threads in to the block to keep it all in place. Hope this helps.

OK we have a different setup to deal with. Thanks Lew for posting what he is buying. This is what would be on a later Cub like a 2165. Just my 2 cents it's a better PTO than what came on the 1641 and it's what I put on my 1641. Here's a pic.

Now, THANKS gentlemen! Seeing the pictures makes sense!
The center bolt (use Threadlocker Red?) holds the PTO in place? The bolt (with Sam's arrow) stops the PTO from spinnin'? Great! The bolt (again Sam's pointer) is on the block! Spring is 'round the corner and the boys will be drivin' "their" Cubbie! I usually walk along and never engage the mowin' deck. The little guys have to be at least ten, or more. They are really eager to be Cub Cadets! Pic below was Day 1 with "his" Cub. The deck is really rusty but, no holes and appears very solid. Greased, lubed. Perhaps the sturdiest "home" deck I've ever seen. Definitely not a "Home Cheapo!" deck. Now a good blastin', scrapin, and paint. I was thinking spray but, the underside the boys'll have to wear gloves and use brushes! ![]() ![]() ![]() http://youtu.be/w9dC9qMPWv4

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
