Yes, the gearshift is the vent on a gear drive. No vent on the top back like on a hydro.

Default axle wear marks
Craig, did you figure out what caused the wear marks on front axle. Mine had similar marks , but I had every thing taken apart before I noticed it. I thought it was the belt rubbing because of bent mule drive. But someone ( I think it was Matt G ) told me it was the pulleys rubbing. Do you have a definitive answer?

I'm not powder coating anything , so I filled grooves with JB weld. Couldn't even tell after paint. I 'm looking forward to Calvin's tractor when it's done with all your " goodies " on it. That's cool that the kids are helping.

The marks are probably from the mule drive pulleys running on the axle. Was the undercarriage all bent up?

My guess is the pulleys rubbed in. Jon thinks too short of a belt was used. I have the mule drive, it seems ok, but I have never used it.
I am contemplating repair options.

Very nice job. Even using the red oxide primer. Looking great. I always ask this I know. What paint are you using? Spray or gun?
