I am replacing my leaking axle seals and changing my axle tubes from bushings
to bearings. When I removed the tubes I found the rear end fluid at the base where the tube mounts to the transaxle full of a thick syrup substance. I am trying to get this out. Can I use diesel fuel and spray the whole rear end without opening up the front half of the transaxle??? I really think this syrupy stuff should go before I put it together. Let me know what you think.

You can use whatever your favorite solvent is. Just make sure when you done, the solvent residue is dried up and gone.

I'd use diesel. I remember someone saying brake cleaner took the coating off the inside.

I was wondering if diesel sprayed in the rear by differential and carrier area will get to the front and be trapped somehow and cause damage.
I am not planning on splitting it and only bought rear end plate gasket and axle carrier gaskets.

Couldn't imagine it causing much damage, diesel itself is a lubricant. Just to be safe, let it drain out for a few days.

I use diesel to wash out the insides of my hydros all the time. Haven't ever had any problems. I can't imagine any problems with washing out a gear drive with it.

Elevate the front end a bit when you do it for better draining.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
