I've noticed on this 127 I've got sometimes out of the blue the engine just dies, like you've turned the key off. It always does it once the engine has warmed up. My dad thought it could be the condenser, so this is what all I've done.
I have - installed a new condenser, installed a new ignition coil (kohler brand), new air filter, and put a new head gasket on. After you let the tractor sit for a few minutes it starts right up, easy. It may run as long as you want it, then it may die after a few minutes. Also, a few times after it does die, I have to keep the choke open once it starts back up to keep it running.

You have something in the carb, either the float is sticking or a blockage.

wild bill - yes, I have tried starting it immediately, and yes, it is real easy to start back. I am a motor moron, does the exhaust value have anything to do with where I changed the head gasket? It had that problem before I changed the gasket. Did I just not get it cleaned good? I have another thread showing some pics of the engine with the head off.

If you have to pull the choke to keep it running, you've got a fuel delivery problem. You said you drove quite a long way to get this thing...I wonder if you knocked loose some junk in the tank, and it migrated to the carb and clogged it up.

![]() I took the tank off to put a new sediment bowl on. I forgot to mention that. The old one had what looked like play-do and macaroni/cheese one side of the inside. I was dying before and after the bowl replacement too. Do you think carb cleaner would work, or attempt a re-build?

If you had crud in the fuel tank, you might have the same junk in the carb, or the elbow entering the carb.
I found some clear fuel line at my local auto parts store. I found it very handy to see what's really going on. I ran my tank empty, but I knew it immediately, even though there was still a bit of fuel in the tank. It sounds like a fuel delivery problem to me too.

Clean your tank, replace your lines and re-build your carb. I had an off topic LT that did the same exact thing. I did the above and it ran like a top until the starter went and I got a CC ..

It like it doesn't even take one revolution to start. Does that make sense? Basically as soon as you turn the key it hits, no "chug, chug, start..."
Edit------- Like I said in the first post also, sometimes after it dies, it will run forever after I start it back, and sometimes it dies back within 10 secs to whenever. And keeping the choke open does appear to make a difference.

Try running it without the fuel cap - maybe it's clogged.

The fuel cap is one that has a guage on it (f-e). I didn't know if that was factory or not.
I don't think it has the breather hole like my original does.
