Nice 108!

Gold stripe=86
Green stripe=108/109
Red stripe=128/129
Blue stripe=149/169

CC from the factory put the stripes on to set off each "set" of cub probably. So it makes it easier to spot a cub from a distance, see what color stripe it has, gear shift or not, and guess what model it is. Unless the PO put the wrong decal on or the hood was swapped.............

Both 86's I used to have had the gold stripe. Tim, someone musta replaced the decal or hood.

Someone probably replaced the hood on your old 108. Hoods are all the same and the model number is on the dash cowl. I've seen quite a few over the years with different hoods. I've seen quietline hoods on the 1x8/1x9 series as well.

Congrats again on the 108 you found. Looks like a keeper.

From what I've seen the seat he has pictured came on the later narrow frames and early wide frames before the 6 pad came out. Either one in great condition seems to be harder and harder to find, but that's what came on them, with a white pan. Always looking for more info on this kind of stuff.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
