Ditto on what the guys are saying.

As J-M says, don't paint the hydro pump fins, although I did hit them lightly with clear lacquer spray.

On the Kohler, I left the head in aluminum for cooling, and used black BBQ paint for the fins on the block. I painted the cooling shroud separately. Since aluminum doesn't hold paint very well, I left the cam cover bare and hit it with clear lacquer. I also decided to do the oil breather cover the same way, since it takes so much heat, fuel and oil abuse.

I was also cautioned not to paint the differential vent. Don't know if it came from this board or not.

Excellent point. It's a little round brass screen. Give it a scrub with a stiff toothbrush and tape it off. It's in this area:

You can't see it when it's assembled anyway....(hydro pump fins)

Thanks guys for the tips. I definitely did not know about the breather screen. I'm going to start on it this afternoon. I'll post pictures when I get the head off.

Hello, i just redid a head gasket on an old 10hp out of my 100 that i new was leaking. It had the heat shield and gas tank bracket bolted down with the head bolts,which i thought was strange. I guess that's the way they were. Guess what i found under there, a lp head #235461. Bingo! Mike

I'm researching the torque values and bolts on the head before I take it apart and have a question. The 105 manual says to torque to 420 in-lbs which is 35 foot-lbs. In the K241 manual it says 25 - 30 foot-lbs.

Hi, i use copper kote and go to 30 but i know some people who go to 35. Mike

Thanks for the response. I got the head off and here are the pictures. This is my first time on an engine so I need some opinions. How bad or good is this? I see the one burn mark in the head. I realize what I have to do to put it back together but other than gently scrape and vacuum what else. Thanks! Oh, and the brown dirt on the edges of the head are what we down south call dirt daubers!

Was wondering if anyone could help. I need a wear button for my 104 to get snowblower going but i have one on my 105 that my buddy is using to plow snow. How hard is it to change the rocker arm out? Due to wear button on my 104 is gone except for small piece on back(closest to the grill) that is not big enough to even get vice grips on to turn out. Usually with metal bolts with same prob i would just weld a nut to it and turn it out? Any ideas?
