Default 1811 Brake Issue

I have a 1985 1811 Hydro. When I press the brake pedal the linkage kicks the trans lever back to neutral and to go again I have to move the trans lever. This is very annoying as other hydros I have had all you do is release the brake and you are on the go unless I have moved the lever myself. Is this normal for the 1811? If it is NOT can anyone help me with where I can find an adjustment procedure to correct the situation.

NOTE: this tractor was given to me and I am considering a refurb but the brake situation is a definite drawback.

If I'm understanding you correct, when you push the brake pedal the hydro lever goes to neutral and you DON'T want it to do that?

Because that is 100% normal operation for a Cub. When you hit the brake, it stops and that hydro lever goes back to neutral. Sorry, no way around that one

Yep. It's a brake, not a clutch. That's the way they are made. You don't need to use the brake unless it's for parking anyway. Just keep your foot off of it, problem solved.

I have explained to my family that the brake pedal is an emergency brake only and is not for ordinary use. It's only for one of thoses oh s**t moments when you have been looking the wrong way and are in a turn with your right hand out of position that you need to stop right now!As mentioned it is also a good parking brake.

Foot controlled hydro's are nice but the 1811 was one of the best built Cubs. Give it a try and once you get the hang of it you will like it. I never use the brake pedal either unless it's for holding it in place when I'm not on it.

Ditto.

Some like the foot control hydros. Wouldn't work for me as I mow on too many hillsides sitting on the fender. That foot pedal wouldn't be too handy for me.
