I finally got the basket case 149 running. Next weekend I'll put a set of junk tires on it to see if she drives. It's not gonna be an original restore as the parts were everywhere in this guys garage. All nuts/bolts replaced with high grade etc. I gotta say this thing sounds mean!! As far as hydro oil, are they all created equal or stick with the IH brand? Anyone know a good place to buy/order from? Also, can someone tell me where to find a key for the ignition?Next, I'd like to here any opinions on must have upgrades please..(steering..etc..) Or, maybe some help on what to take care of first. Hopefully I'm posting this in the right spot. I'm new to forums

Your in the right forum. I also have a 149 with a modded K321. Use IH Hydra-tran and a CC filter. If you have a Case/IH dealer near you you can get everything there or CC suppliers on this forum. I buy Hdyra tran in bulk, At 5$ a qt, I just take two plastic milk jugs and the Ih dealer to fill them. I suggest that you go to the Technical section-tractors and print/look at the chassis manual for the 149. There is also a section for your K321. Good luck with your endevers on the 149.

Glad to hear you got it running. I bought a replacement key from my local CC dealer.

I think a generic GT key should work. I bought a Murray switch for my 149, and the CC key worked fine.

149 should take an IH key. Unless it's been replaced.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
