Don't you just love what the ethanol fuel is doing to the fuel systems of our Cub Cadets. Going through the fuel system of the latest addition the rubber tank bushings looked like they were melted and had plugged the shut off valves only after it had contaminated the internals of the electric fuel pump. When I got the pump running and the valves cleaned out, the fuel hoses were like a sprinkler, don't know how the tractor ever ran. One more reason to change out the rubber fuel line BEFORE they leak.

From what I see you stole that 2086. Yep the complete fuel system needs to be gone through, pretty much standard procedure. Make sure you take the shut off valves apart and clean them also. Check out the tranny mounting. Should be a sweet machine after a little TLC.

Agreed; $400 is a steal, even given replacing the fuel system and plastic gear.

As far as fuel system, wow! I wonder how long that thing sat to allow the fuel to congeal like that. I don't think I've ever seen one so gunked up as that

Got the 2086 running over the weekend! Pulled the fenders and cleaned out the tank, replaced the rubber tank bushings, the fuel pump and all the lines. Pulled the carb and cleaned out a load of water and other crud. It fired right up , no smoke, ran smooth and idled well. It has a pretty good oil leak from the crank seal on the driveshaft end that I will address when I pull the engine out to do the cam replacement. There was some water in the oil,so I also changed the oil and filter too, doesn't appear to be coolant, but I plan to change the head gaskets while I have it apart . Also will have to address the steering, there is a lot of play in the power steering cylinder ends and the front axle in moving back and forth when you turn the wheel.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
