Default New (to me) Toy(GT2544)

Greetings folks-

After giving my Cub 2166 some attention- just to keep it running for the season, I'd been keeping my eyes on used machinery out there.
The metal fronted units held a spot in my heart, as I could reasonably afford one.

I found a used 2005 2544 outside of Harrisburg Pa- that was not a lot of money- so took the trip from Mass to Pa on Columbus day and brought her home. Had to leave my tailgate down(5 foot box on my Frontier), and had it on 2 x 12 planks to help keep the weight off the tailgate. I was pretty nervous about it moving, but in spite of the numerous hills- it did not budge.

2005 GT2544 with the 44 inch deck and 288 hours. Has a minor amount of surface rust on the deck- near the wash ports. I'll take care of that over the winter. Overall I was surprised by the overall cleanliness of the unit, and the tightness of steering compared to my 2166 that had led a hard life.

I gave it a go on my lawn last night, and compared to my 2166-
Engine is extremely quiet at full throttle!!!
Deck has so much power- I purposely cut it lower than normal, and was able to cruise- seems like it just ate the grass up and chewed it out effortlessly.

I had to use the 2166(with its bagger) to clean up the clippings, and to get the areas where we don't want grass blown- and it was back to "life in the slow lane"!!!!! I was never impressed with the speed of thedeck in the 2166- even back when it was new. It seems I always had to creep just to get it to cut clean even without the bag.

Between having the bigger tires, and the riser to raise the seat higher- I felt like the king riding on it!!! I will need to take better care of this one and not leave it outside all season long.

Now I gotta find me a sweet deal on a 210 bagger for it!

Chris

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
