Default 149 driveshaft

Is there supposed to be a steel ball bearing in the part that fits on pump shaft that the drive shaft slides into? When I removed my drive shaft, there was no steel ball and it doesn't seem like there is room there for one. Thought I had read on here that there was supposed to be one. Thanks for your help.

No. No bearing.

If you aren't sure how your machine is supposed to be put together, you can always visit partstree.com, or cubcadet.com, or about 3 other sites and look at a parts blowout. I'm not discouraging questions, I'm saying that sometimes it's quicker and easier to look at the pictures, than wait on an explanation or description. If it still isn't clear, that's understandable. We're here to help!

Thanks for your help. I have a shop manual and a cd for parts but I know from experience that there are usually some mistakes in these print outs. I was in doubt and wanted to hear it from the guys in the know. Thanks so much. My mind is now at ease over this matter. Have a great day.

Although we have found a few discrepancies in a few of the books, there is only 2 instances I can think of the pictures were incorrect. All of the err's have been in the description. The only 2 pictures that I know for sure are incorrect is on a couple of hydrostat blowouts for the late '82 series. The other that comes to mind is on a 982. There is no pic for the early ones with a dipstick in the trans housing. Other than that, you can count on the pics to be accurate.

Good to know that the books and pictures are pretty much accurate. I have a motorcycle and found several mistakes in text and pictures. Thanks again.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
