I've had CFL lights in my house for the 3 years I've lived in it. No real problems. That being said, these aren't in an unheated garage/shop.

Maybe they just had "left over stock" but my local stores all still had regular incandescent bulbs.
![]() I used to use 150Watt and even some 200 watt in a small shop. (Ok, when I worked out of my garage before getting a "real" shop ![]() ![]() |

I have flouresent lights in my unheated garage. Most of the winter and during high humidity the rest of the year the old large tube units do not light up very quickly. A couple of years ago I bought a new light to replace one that just did not come on any more. I had to buy the small tube T8 (I think) I got more light and nearly instant on with it. Have been replacing the old ones one at a time. I do have the screw in flourescent bulb in my drag light but do not like it at all. It does not produce anywhere near the light of an incandescent. It has to be so close to your work that it is in the way. It does seem more sturdy than the incandescent as Eric has not broken it yet.

I've yet to replace a CFL bulb (except for one that my hay guys busted). I use them in several lamps in the house and on our two porch lights that are on all the time and recently are using them in outdoor area lights. One is a 200 watt equivalent (65 watt draw) that has about twice the lumens as some of the others of that size. Yet to go through a winter with this one but the 100 watt equivalent on the other side of the barn and a couple inside the barn have been great. Yes, they take a bit to warm up in the cold but it's a matter of a minute or two, they work fine. Our electric bill is out of sight so I welcome the energy savings. The LEDs look promising too if they can get the price down a little, want to use up my stock of regular and CFLs first.

Not trying to make more work for you, but they make light bulb changers. The electrical contractor/supply I worked for sold this one (so does everyone else). Reviews seem positive.

LED's are the direction I am going. I have one in our kitchen in the light that is on most of the time and it is nice and bright. The last ceiling fan I bought for the rental even had a LED strip as its light fixture.
I have had the CFL's in the coach lights on the garage for a few years. They are on a timer and on all night, work fine in the winter, a little dim to start but after a while they're at normal brightness. I bought a contractor pack of the 100W cfl's a few years ago when the power company offered a rebate and I am still working through it. I bought a VW last year and the trunk light was pathetic so I got a roll of LED's and put a 2' strip on the roof of the trunk and wired it to the trunk light. It looks like the landing strip from the "Close Encounters" movie when you open the trunk at night!! ![]() |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
