I know it's due to lack of grease and my fault. However, the right blade all of the sudden banged against the deck. It is very loose and I have yet to break it down. Im sure it's a bearing just which part would I be looking to buy or should I be prepared to get the entire assembly. I asking for any experience on deck spindle bearings that go bad and a common replacement one. I hope it will be an easy project x-ing my fingers. Thanks in advance, Rob

There are two different types of spindles for the 42" type deck (like the one in your picture).
One has a cast iron housing and can be rebuilt pretty cheap if the shaft and housing are not damaged. The other has a two piece stamped (fairly heavy) steel housing and the bearings DO NOT COME OFF OF THE CENTER SHAFT. And they are like a gazillion dollars for the shaft and bearings. Get some pictures and hopefully we can point you in the right direction.

No sense in us guessing. Just take it apart. We can't see what failed from our end. Only thing I can tell you for sure........ it failed. Could be cheap and easy, (seems like it never is) could be expensive/hard. It's just a short shaft and a bearing (no matter which type) so it isn't going to be hard. Expensive is a possibility.

Ok, I will pull out the spindle and break it down. Maybe with some posted pics the correct part number can be identified. Thanks again

The bolt next to the housing had been mortified, piece welded at head, to hold down the one side since it had snapped. I'm not if it caused the failure or just added to the chain of events. Note the bearing housing was full of grease. Thanks, Rob

Yeah, that is the "inexpensive to rebuild" cast iron type... However, as you already know rebuilding that one won't do you any good.
Put an ad in the wanted section, check our sponsors and check ebay. You should be able to come up with one fairly cheap. You are looking for one from a 38" or 42" cast center deck, others may work but I'm not sure of the exact interchange. DO NOT buy one from a 48" deck, they look similar but are very different.

Upon close evaluation it is pretty broken up and I would not even know where to start for a rebuild. I may already have a replacement thanks again, Rob.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
