this is the fluid i used most recently in a 123, according to the description its compatible with the case/ih hytrans. i dont have much run time on it but the trans acts much better than it did with the old fluid and filter.

Just another story on Hydro fluid but I think it might do some good here. when I purchased my 1650 3 years ago I used this fluid from TSC and it made an immediate difference in noise and power. I was happy. one year later it started making a little noise again in neutral. It stayed like this till this year I bought a tiller and had to put the gear box on the rear which meant I was going to have to put a new gasket on it and drain the fluid. it was clean and just a little darker than when I put it in but I don't believe this fluid will last 20 years like the IH Hytran has done in so many machines out there. So I just bit the bullet and put the good stuff in and I'm sure its going to be in there for longer than 3 years.

if its like anything else you should probably change the fluid more often than every 20 years, realistically the fluid and filter should be replaced once a year.

I totally agree. But I might have put 4 hours on mine this year so far. I see post all the time of people cleaning out who knows how old oil out of these hydro rear ends.

I'm no oil expert but I would think change intervals would have to consider amount of actual use. I have Cubs sitting in a garage or shed for 5 years, I doubt the hydro oil would need changed. I may be incorrect with my thinking but I don't change it when its been sitting in a sealed rear end doing nothing.
I just pulled my 1440 apart and it was as clean as new snow inside and it probably had 400 hours on the hydro change and had been sitting the past 3 years.
The oil saga will continue for years after we're all gone. That keeps things lively I suppose. When you think about it, depending on your age, you might as well give all your hydros one more "good stuff" oil change because it will probably out live you....

Took a while, but here we go. Couple pics of the 149 and the deck and plow that came with it.....

Latest bit of work was putting tubes in the front tires. With that plus the filters I've changed, I can called this "restored" now, right?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
