Hey folks! I'm out in the shop putting back together my 1250's Kohler K301, and about to finish up with the parts 1450. Pretty good evening! Well, lo-and behold the long awaited model 86 showed up just a short while ago.....delivered! The kid turns out to be a great friend, and I assured him that once him and his girlfriend settle in, that he should really get back into the IH Cub Cadets for mowing their yard once they get their property and house.

Anyways, he was glad to see this model 86 go to a good home. I assured him that it would, and explained that I don't drill holes, part out, make any funny modifications to my garden tractors. I told him they all stay factory, but I will improve them where possible. Now, having this 86, it sure is a cream puff! Bad engine and all. We're certain the connecting rod broke. Besides that, the tractor should be gone through and made sure all WP monogram hardware is in place, and the basic checks, cleaning, and lubrication. The seat is in so-so condition.

This makes 3 pick up's in a month's time! I'm very excited about this 86. Going to tinker around with it, then probably put it up for the winter along with my awesome 1211! I'm now up to a 1250, two 1450's, a model 72, my 1211, and now this model 86!

congrats on the 86. i keep wanting to get one due to the rarity but my limited storage space keeps me from doing so, tomorrow i begin building an addition on my workshop.

I'd like an 86 too, something about having another little 8 horse wide frame, and the rarity too

Wow. I'm starting to kick myself for letting one go at an auction a couple weeks ago for $450. I was gonna go $500, I woulda had it at $475, then the other might have had it at $500. Never know. Sad thing was, it belonged to a friend of mine, I worked on it, he used it to mow, only 2 things wrong was choke cable had frozen up and float wasnt shutting off in carb. Knew i'd kick myelf. Very nice condition, too. I mowed with it a couple times, nice little tractor. Johncub, if you don't mind me askin, where in ohio are you from? Roy

My model 71 was my most recent low production number garden tractor, next it was my model 72, until this model 86! You have to make the room to keep them. Here is an example:

{ BTW, I don't scrap anymore Cub Cadet anything unless it's really bad. Also, I live in tractor country. Folks often rubber neck at the tractors, and sometimes pop in to ask about some of them. }

Interesting point. Guess there was only two wide frame Kohler K181's ever produced by International!

Thanks Zippy1! Yea, This now makes two IH Cub Cadets that have been delivered to me this year, lol! Well, I have now taken a few pictures of this newly acquired IH Cub Cadet model 86. Here is the serial number:



I think it was built in October of '73 .

Well, this model 86 is pretty clean, despite a touch up with a rattle can of yellow. No rust, except what's on the surface of the 42" mower deck, and there is a rust hole as pictured, but nothing too bad. The tractor seems complete as best as I can tell at the moment. I also should be getting the original Operator's Manual, and a parts manual. The tractor was purchased in '73 at a little hardware store in downtown Garrettsville, Ohio, based on the information given last night . I'm just north of there, about 15 minutes, in Geauga.





Even this mower deck seems complete. Looks like with this deck, a guy can run up to 10.5 inch rims and tires of any type without the interference of the mower deck!

Just a few more. I don't have major plans for the engine work, just going to clean and go through it nicely as time permits.















Pretty nice, unmolested garden tractor! I look forward to getting it running
