Buy the Tecumseh! They make excellent boat anchors! i agree rebuild the Kohler or find another Kohler out of a similar tractor that is still good.

I guess it depends on what you want to do. Are you doing a restoration or is kohler just getting a little tired? Or are you looking for a little more hp/torque? One trade off I can see is that old kohler is way heavier than the Tecumseh so you'll lose a little mass there. If it were me, I'd do a compression check on the old Kohler and price out what it is to freshen it up before repowering.

Like stated, Kohler is the only way to go. Why degrade a CC with one of those Tok-cum-see's. But its your tractor, so you can do what you want with it.

but it does fit the very rare and elusive 103.
there's no reason why a "properly" rebuilt K series can't give you another 30 - 40 years of service. there are allot of hack job rebuilders out there so find a guy that knows what He's doing. Jon's price's are very good for the quality of the overhaul you get and you know He knows the product . |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
