I couldn't agree more. Good oil, filters and plenty of grease is a lot better than changing parts and then greasing it after the fact.

I wonder how well a UHMW washer in place of the thrust bearing would hold up?
For a narrow frame: UHMW Polyethylene Flat Washer, 3/4" Screw Size, 1.32" OD, .05"-.07" Thick About $10 for 10 They are thin enough I bet no metal mods are needed to try them out.

I made the modification, and the steering appears smoother. I was concerned about the dust/dirt getting into the bearing/roller cage assembly, so I bought O rings at Lowes in the plumbing department and placed one over the washer/cage assembly. It fit perfectly, and the O rings was stretched to fit around the assembly, so it is very secured. I may still buy a suicide/spinner knob to complete the modification/improvement. I also think I will look into tri-ribbed tires as well but not anytime soon.

Cut grass today, and what a difference. I was amazed at how much easier the steering was. For about $15 dollars it is well worth it. I wish Cub Cadet did this on all its tractors, but I know they look for ways to cut costs.
