PO told me to use 1 (one) quart of oil on the oil change. that didn't sound "right" to me, so i scrounged around on the net and found out it takes 1.5 quarts of 30 weight--not 10/30 like the PO told me. now, with the larger motor?? how much more, if any, oil is required on an oil change?
K341 are good motors if they are taken care of. From the sounds of PO telling you to use the wrong weight of oil and the amount of oil to use the motor didn't have the best care.

Best thing you can do is get a Kohler Service manual for your Cub. This Kohler manual can be found in our technical library:

A service manual for your 149 can be found in Only Cub Cadets Technical Library too.

Any Kohler with a deep sump oil pan usually takes 1.5 quarts of oil. I don't measure when I add oil....I just fill to the crankcase till it's to the full mark on the dip stick.

Does your Cub still have the voltage regulator under the seat? My Son and I took his 86 and change the electrical system from a starter generator (factory system) to a starter stator system (Quiet Line Cubs). From the looks of your 149 you have the same electrical system in your Cub as my Son has.

yes, the voltage regulator is still under the seat.

matt,

that didn't help. my luck, it's probably more involved than that. the overall linkage is really loose and worn. if i ever buy another, there's going to be a different outcome. inspection plates come off easily and i'll certainly take advantage of them. plus, the "cooling-fan" on the drive shaft is in horrible shape with several fins broken. this needs to be replaced for sure!!

i usually spend my winter months; trapping fur. but, this year, i may well spend the time learning all the little details taking this machine apart and replacing the worn parts. it would be time well spent.

The voltage regulator isn't needed if your Cub is using the stater charging system. The charging system is under the flywheel and produces AC voltage. The stater converts AC voltage to DC voltage.

My Son's 86 does is not running a voltage regulator. We used a wire harness from a Quiet Line Cub.

I would not get to excited if I were you.Down load the manual and repair each thing that needs it. Hydro creep is no big deal and I have done many with six hydros.once you go through you tractor you will enjoy it more. There is lots of information out the there and It can be a great tractor. If you lived in Nova Scotia Canada I would give you a hand on your repairs . Good luck and have fun with it. Later Don T
