I picked up a rearend and hydro drive from a 1250 today. For the price I couldn't pass it up. But it is an internal brake rear. I am intending on using this on my 1872 project ,so I was planing using the external brakes for the dual brake set up.
1- Can this internal be changed to an external ? 2-Will external axles just fit right in it ? 3- And is there a plug or some thing for where the rod for the internal brake goes ? 4- Or would it just be easier to find an external brake housing ? Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. JOE

All the stuff will fit, but it might be best to just find an external brake housing so you don't have to worry about trying to plug the hole. You'd have to leave the linkage on to hold all of that stuff in there, but it'd probably interfere with the brake rockshaft on the super.

I haven't taken it apart yet to see about plugging it. I was hoping there was just a pipe plug, or set screw type plug that went in there. The linkage is all behind/beside the hydro drive, so I guess I could just leave it in there. Just trying to eliminate future headaches.

There's about an 1 1/4" bore for the internal brake plunger. The external brake housings don't have this hole bored into the casting.

![]() I just work around my problems....but then...well....I am a rebel like that. And it hasn't leaked a lick yet. I'd have to look but I think the brakes are more forward on the Super frames and shouldn't be a problem. Scott |

I didn't realize there was that much room. One thought would be to put the axles from the external rear into the internal rear, and then you could tie the left pedal brake into the internal brake and use the two pedals on the right as independent external brakes.

Now that is an idea. Use the internal on the left peddle as a park brake so to say. Then just hook the dual brakes up independent of the left peddle.
