You will need a new shaft coupler because the clutch has it built into it and they are NLA. I didn't do mine yet but when I do I'm going to use a 5/8 shaft and 2 shaft ends from something like an 1811 or any GT. They are still available new and there are probably a million used ones out there because they don't wear. So, to answer your question I would get 2 (5/8) coulplers, bolt everthing up and measure how long you need to cut a piece of 5/8 shaft to fit, drill it and pin it. They are easy to do. If you have a lathe you may want to use 3/4 or 7/8 shaft and turn the ends down to 5/8 for the couplers. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Check to see if you sheered the roll pin in the clutch itself ,it's a 1/4 single wrap pin.

There aren't any more joints in the rag joint set up then there are in the cv. I do believe that the cv is probably a better set up but it also cost a lot more. I run the rag set up in all of my smokers and they don't vibrate. I also agree with Mcamp about checking for a broken pin inside the clutch.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
