I have this compulsion to want to restore them all.
I may have a similar problem
I do agree that when restored they make a nice tractor, and all that work makes you want to keep them.
The pair of 147's are nice, They will need some work, but could be nice tractors.

Chris

yeah they are a nice pair. i am tearing into the electric lift that doesn't work. not a very friendly piece to work on mind you. the good news is that the motor works well. could use new brushes but i am working on figuring out why the worm gears are now functioning as they should. I found that the bottom bushing is missing that holds the vertical gear that is driven by the motor. other then that this is all i have gotten to.

As for the final result i don't know what i want i would like to keep one of them just because they are nice tractors not to mention they run and idle very well due to the extra mass of the large flywheel (sheer engine size is also quite appealing) as far as my family goes they think i already have to many. idk, i am going to try to get the "parts machine" running and driving and going to see if once all tidied up and running nice i can sell it for what i paid for the pair to recupe my losses then i will see what the cards hold for me afterwards.

do you think a bare bones 147 with new wire harness and tune up, runs well would get $500 in the North East?

I did rebuild the electric lift on the 147R. It needed both bearings replaced. Plus lots of cleaning. It seems to work good. My motor was good but had mechanical problems. I might have put some pictures on here when I rebuilt the lift.

Chris

Its been a couple years. I did not have to get new gears. I cant see yours that well but is it broken? Doesn't look too bad from what I can see???? I don't have any spare parts for the electric lift.

Chris

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
