Default Which one?

I'm just going to throw this out there, so bear with me. I currently have a Lt1050 which I use to cut my 4 acres with and pull a trailer around to pick up fallen limbs, rocks etc. It's pretty rough ground here in MO. but I like the tractor. Hindsight being 20-20 I would have gotten a tractor with some ground engaging abilities. Now I view a lot of the posts here and see that many have older Cubs with rear blades and other attachments. I don't really need something with a front end loader, but I would like the option, if possible on a small tractor. I plan on keeping the LT 1050 until it dies, but I take quite good care of it and I don't see that happening for a while. So...If I wanted a good used model, age not important, which would some of you, or any of you reccomend? I see several models out there and I know nothing about the older Cubs but the fact that they have the power I am looking for is very appealing to me. I want something that I can use a box blade with, perhaps pull a finish or rough cut mower and do some hauling and be able to move a bit of dirt and gravel. I appreciate any advice or direction you can give me.

Man, your going to get all kinds of responses!

For what you are asking, you need a Super. Something with a 3pt hitch. There are several models that had that option. They also had the option of a rear PTO, but your going to be disappointed because unless your good at fabrication, or finding rare attachments, the PTO turns too fast, and the wrong direction to run a rear mower. CCC did make one for it, but it's a really rare attachment. You can get a front end loader, but again, takes a while to find one, and get ready they aren't cheap. If you could find a super set up like you want, and find a loader, you'd have a small fortune in it. I really think for what you describe you'd be better off looking for a sub-compact tractor. BX2200 Kubota or similar. I'm partial to the New Holland boomer series tractors myself. I'm sure you'll get plenty of other responses.

Agree with Jonathan.
But if you can get by without the FEL (front end loader) your options are endless in the GT market. As for a rear mower you could always use a self motorized pull type, Swisher for example.
My 2 cents.

I also agree with Jonathan. I don't know how I would do the things I do around my place without my BX. I use my Supers for most of the grass killing but when I want to mow the 15 acres I use this.

And here's one more opinion... Kubotas are good, lots of the older models available and they'll use standard implements. The Boomers are nice too. But the small ones are made by LS so you might be better off looking at an LS if buying new, they are rare in the used market. Used Boomers seem to be somewhat rare in my experience too. Also look at Mahindra and Kioti as these two are well regarded and are dealing, trying to get a foothold in the market. (full disclosure, I just bought a Mahindra eMax 22 with a FEL). Yanmar has introduced a new line of SCUTs and Massey Ferguson has a line of SCUTs also. Probably a few others out there I've missed.

Just my opinion that the older Cubs were great for their time and if they work for you all the better. But they are in most cases they going on 20 yrs. old or more with all the issues that come with older machinery. If you aren't too mechanically savy you might have a problem finding someone to work on them and some parts are hard to find and can be pricey (of course, what machine part isn't... saw a long block for a 9N, an up to 75 yr. old machine, for almost $4,000, for a tractor that might be worth $1,500 on a good day!). Something a little newer might be better for a worker that you have to rely on. If not, enjoy a Super!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
