Default My New To Me 169!

Well, it took me about 5 weeks to go get it, but I'm glad that I did. Here are some pics of my 169. It came with new decals for the hood and an extra can of Cub Cadet white spray paint. It has all of the correct and original goodies, except the tail lights, and seat. I noticed that it also has a cigarette lighter, but is missing the push button for it--does anyone know if a standard cigarette plug will fit into it? Looks like I'm going to have to take up another bad habit now--haven't smoked a cigarette since 3rd grade. It is my 2nd 169, but my first is missing the correct engine but the frame, etc is in better shape than this one so I may just grab the engine off of this one and put in the other one. Well, what do you think of the cub?

Very nice 169. And you have 2, I'd like to find just one. Even has the steering wheel insert, good job. How many are you up to now?

Thanks Alvy! That makes me up to about 19 or 20 cubs. I have 5 stored outside--hence the tarps in the background, so I am going to liquidate 2 of them soon. My first 169 had a 3 point with it and really good tiller gearbox and everything on the 169 but the engine. I got tired of looking for an engine, so I just bought a complete one. The engine purrs nicely, so I may do a transplant into the nicer 169. The only question about doing that is I don't know which one has the lower serial number. So I guess the question is, do I favor a better original paint job or a lower serial number--which is more important?

Nice find I would keep both but fix the nicer one. I had four 169's at one time. I ended up parting out the worst one due to some PO frame work that was not needed. Like other guy's have said, maybe you will find a 1650 motor and can convert it back over to a SG and such, and have two! I plan on restoring both of mine, leaving one manual lift and one hydro lift. Again, nice find!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
