I got my grandpas "O" running great yesterday and took it for a ride. The only part I see that needs work is the clutch. This is my first Original let alone a clutch driven tractor, so bear with me. The Drive disk or whatever you call it was really floppy and one other smaller disk the is closer to the transmission was just as floppy and when you went to de-clutch it would occasionally wobble and vibrate the entire tractor. There was also a lot belt slippage, later it blew the belt and to closer inspection it wasn't an IH/Cub Cadet belt and it was really cracked so I need to find a new belt. Preferably the one that belongs on it. So while I have anything apart I'd like to fix it all in just one swoop and not have to put everything together and take it apart again later. I am aware that you have to compress the spring somehow and I have no idea how I'm going to do that.
I apologize if this post is too long and I asked too many questions. Here are some pictures of when we got it and a video of after. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uokYD...ature=youtu.be

First thing you should do is to download the service manual.

Looks like you're on your way... Originals are really fun machines.
As mentioned above download the manual, the Original clutch is a little more complicated that later models.

Nice going Connor! That is going to be a lot of fun to work on and ride! The O's are fun because they seem to sit lower to the ground when you ride them---The Original Cub Cadet Low-Rider.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
