Nice find on the early O. The S/G can be rewound to run the CC needed for our Cubs, but it would be probably easier to find a good, used one. I second the vote for Porch Electric. Mike Lamar also makes a nice wiring harness. He's a forum member. As far as the clutch goes, the plates could be stuck together. I don't have a gear drive anymore, but when I did, I would lock the clutch/brake pedal down when not in use. After I did that, I usually didn't have a problem with clutch plate stickage.........

Tanks everyone for the help so far. Here are the pictures I took today. I took a lot. Also I don't know what kind of blade it has. I've never owned or seen an "O" before so I don't know what I have and what is missing. The Chrysler/dodge key only seems to turn on one of the headlights. Warning: Lots of pictures

Thanks for the catch! My bad, I should have got my butt out of the chair and gone out in the garage and looked.. memory isn't what it used to be! I guess I haven't fooled with the O's in a while and was thinking of the "newer" 161's, I do have several of the early style's as well- sorry.

That is quite a set-up to make it work, interesting to say the least!

Good luck,

Looks like your original starter bracket is still on there. As long as it isn't broke or cobbled you should be able to use it. As for the clutch, I agree with what several have already stated, the two steel hubs are likely stuck to the clutch disc. When you push the pedal down you should be able to wiggle either hub and see a gap between it and the disc. If they don't move I always just take a small screw driver and gently tap it between the disc and hub to free them up. And yes, once you get it working always set the parking brake when not in use to meep tbe hubs from sticking, plus its a good safety practice to always set your parking brake. Good luck with your "O".

Congrats on the 4 digit O! Looks like the PO did a number of mods to "customize" it. It should make a fun project for you and your grandpa to do together. When my clutch was sticking on my 104 because the PO left it outside for a very long time, some PB Blaster on it (but not the plates) freed it up and once I worked it a little bit, it was just like a new one. Glad that O found a good home and look forward to your updated posts.

Here's a suggestion for the clutch (It worked on mine)

Press the clutch pedal in

With a putty knife, separate the disk from Flywheel and then from pressure plate (both sides)

Lube the linkage and you'll be good!

Agree with everyone on the clutch. Most likely just a sticky plate.

As for the wiring harness, there really aren't that many wires. R Brewer has a great schematic which will help you figure out what goes where. there's only about 5-6 wires. Not to take away from anyone supplying a harness, but if you're capable of re-doing an Original, you can re-wire the harness. Just make sure the wire sizes are correct/heavy enough. There are threads to cover that sufficiently as well.

Great score on the "O".

Keep us informed how it goes!

I did what you guys said to do with the clutch and it worked great and I keep the parking break on. Thank you! I've been looking at S/G mount diagrs and I'm getting there. Need to start ordering parts. Next thing on the list is a carb rebuild. Thanks for all the help so far!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
