yup,

It's officially apart!

Good luck! Ya know, it might be interesting when you're all done with the project to have a photo of all the parts that either needed replaced, or were just too far gone to use. Trying to use as much as possible seems to be the underlying thread here, so it would be interesting to see how small of a pile of "leftovers" you might actually have when finished. Just a thought.

Yeah, I'd say this one is on the long-term rebuild cycle.

Thanks for the update

This is a first for me. I've never torn down a transmission and rearend before. It will be scary to see the pile of parts left over.

Let me know what you guys think.
You've been busy! Keep the updates and pics coming.

Thumbs up

I have always bought parts that would be the direct replacement for the bad part. A sure bet is buying another shaft and replacing the bad shaft. That much I know. Just trying to help!

Talking Rear wheels

I would really like to know what those rear wheels came off of. They look like American Mags from the late 50's, the ones you'd see at the drag strip. They look great with those ags on them.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
