That anaerobic stuff is great, for machined surfaces. It doesn't work on a tin cover like the rear ends though. Ask me how I know! ...... OK, I'll tell ya. Put it on the rear main bearing flange on a Ford 6.9 diesel. It's a thin tin cover that holds the seal...... then had to pull it and replace it again because the cover wouldn't smash it enough to eliminate air. After the motor cooked it, it just flaked out and leaked like a sieve. It is really good stuff, for tight fitting pieces though! I still use a lot of it!

Thank you everyone for your replies. I just hand tighten them, when I get to the shop, I will torque them according to the chart in the service manual. But I did use hy-tack gasket sealer on both sides of the gasket. One more question, I noticed that the old and the new gasket had an extra two holes, anyone have any idea why?

I would guess that it is a superseded part. If they have 2 gaskets that are the same basic gasket but different hole locations they may combine the two under one part #.
