A guy at work stumbled on an O for free. He got it running now he wants to unload it. I am more of a wide frame guy but I figure what the heck? He told me "make an offer" It runs and drives surface rust on the entire hood, no fenders, hood emblem, grille, incorrect seat or attachments it does have the correct oil bath air filter. what do you guys think would be fair?
Thanks in advance for any advice

Pictures would help but from the sounds of it I'd prolly peak at 200 give or take. Also what is the serial number if its a low number ( 3 or 4 digit) that helps the value as well at least from a collectors point of view

One of the major factors is the almighty........."I want it bad" factor. That tends to drive the price up.

For comparison, I paid $550 for my O. The mower deck is in really nice condition with just surface rust.
And I WANTED one. ![]()

Yeah, I don't particularly want one but I figure it will at least be good for some horse trading.

Personally, I REALLY like Originals, they are great fun to drive.
However, unless they are well optioned, I never pay much for them anymore. I think the most I've ever paid for an Original is $375.00 (my first one, and I WANTED IT) no options except a deck and the highly coveted seat backrest. It's pretty nice, always starts on the first revolution.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
