Direction of rotation has no bearing on a gear pump. Most gear pumps can be drove either direction. As far as speed is concerned, the cubs PTO should turn 515 RPM at WOT. Your Ford 8N shouldn't have ran but maybe 100 RPM faster than that. Which would have been hard to tell by looking. If it wasn't fast enough, you could just speed it up by belt driving the pump, or using a gearbox of some sort.
