Default Case-IH question

Hello,
I know this is not a Cub question, but I was thinking about buying a larger unit to do some landscaping and drill some post holes. Does anyone have any information or experience with the case IH 235 series tractors? I called my local dealer and they said all parts are still available for these units. Anything to be aware of ?

Thanks

I am familiar with that series of machine. Not really any problems with them mechanically. They just weren't really that popular, or that big of a tractor. Depending on what you plan to do with it will determine whether you like it or not. The diesel motor in it isn't very big. I mean, it's only an 18HP motor.

Is the one your looking at gear drive or hydro? 4X2, or 4X4? Belly mower? How about some pics? I don't know that I would trust CIH when they say all the parts are still available. The main ones are, but CIH didn't build it. I will say, hang on to you check book when you get a repair bill. Parts are HIGH! Price the water pump from Case.

I'm an IH guy through and through. If it's red, I'm on it. Even worked for IH as a mechanic on top of driving red for years. Honestly, a New Holland boomer series tractor, or a Kubota would probably be a better pick. But, if the price is right, and you like the machine, it WILL serve you. They were a dependable tractor.

Sorta like a cub lo boy? Too small for a farm but too big for a suburban house.

Default Case ih

Thanks for the feed back, it is a 4 wheel drive, 60" mower.roll over protection. 1100 hours.no power steering. second owner, and he has had it for over twelve years. priced around $4.000. I am going to look closer at it this week. footprint wise it is similar to a Kubota B7500. I do plan to install some fence ,maybe grading, landscaping ect. probably not much mowing.

$4000? For that you could get an H or M (300, 400 etc) and add a 3 pt that I would love using more than the 235. Now if you live in a hilly area, that is another story. (no ROPS.)

Just me but I wouldn't own an H or an M to do anything more than look at. Big bulky tractor, hard to get on, not much HP, dead PTO, marginal at best hydraulics..... NO THANKS! For $4000 you should be able to buy 2 of either of those tractors.

You were right on with your comment about the 154 though.... The 235 would be pretty much the equivalent of that tractor. Actually, it was it's replacement.

To the OP, you didn't say it was gear drive or hydro.
$4000 is pretty close on price. If it's in good shape and a hydro. If it's a gear drive I'd say it's about $500 too high.

Go look at the Kubota's. I have a B7500 gear drive and it is an awesome machine and they are all 4 wheel drive with a locking rear. It will do everything you want. I have dug a bunch of post holes, plowed, used a tiller and mowed 6 acres of grass for 12 years. I have never had any problems out of it except the original battery only lasted 10 years, maybe someday the original belt will brake on the deck but then again I only have about 1200 hours on the tractor. Who knows how long parts will be around for the Mitsubishi. I think the 154's, 184's & 185's are way under powered but I would like to have a 184 someday. Good luck and let us know what you get.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
