That was actually my next question. My grandfather had this hydrostat honda rider that he used to cut the lawn and it would just whine so loud it was annoying! Are these tractors whiners and if they are, how loud are they?

Yes you can hear a hydro but it is not any noisier because of that, it is just part of the machine noise. You can't hardly take noise as a factor for all the things these machines are capable of doing. I have ran these, both gear and hydro my whole life and I have never really considered the hydro noise as a difference. I guess that just means that Cub Cadets are part of me.

Hear the zzzzzzzzzzz noise at 0:30 when I go forward? That's the hydro pump making noise. It's louder when the tractor is under load (pulling something heavy, etc)

I prefer the manual for anything on a hill, only because It holds its speed, at least to me much better. Also, I think the manual goes faster than the hydro not that I race them but I have to say Eathan an I have had on occasion been returning to the house and I tend to get there faster than him.. Just my

Both are really great machines, and there are diehard fans of each.

My best advice is for you to get (at least) one of each. You will quickly discover the advantages and drawbacks of the two and in no time, you will have your implements and attachments designated to the tractor of choice for the task they perform.
