Default KT17 Backfire
My series II started backfiring today at all throttle settings. Just wondering if it is in the ignition system. I timed the engine with a timing light a couple months ago when I replaced the points and condenser could the coil be going bad?
Any ideas would be appreciated.

Yes. coil is one of the possible causes. does it start hard? does it kick hard, shake a lot, and run rough? was it a somewhat sudden onset? It is quite likely the coil has about had it, and is shorting out and firing when it is not supposed to.

Back-firing out the exhaust? Or through the carb?

Backfire is out the exhaust. Rough running and it starts hard. It seems to me on cylinder is not firing.

check for spark on both sides, and while your checking make sure it has compression on both sides. since its a KT

I agree. And I bet you will find low compression on one side.

I checked compression this morning, 100 on the left 120 on the right. I have spark on both plugs.

Pull the head on the side that is low. It has an exhaust valve problem.
