3185 has a Vanguard in it not a Kohler.

Things I’d check
Make sure it’s not over full on oil
Do a leak down test to see if it has a problem
Make sure the air filter is clean and not oil soaked

Yea they say they (Vanguards) have the same symptom as the Commands with the pressure escaping the cylinder to the lifter bore area where it then pushes oil to the breather....

I will agree that is a very good possibility! TBH, I really don't like ANY of these OHV engines. I'll keep my flathead.

To the OP, perhaps it is time to do a compression check.

Hello, Friend just had this problem on a vanguard. Front seal was leaking, sucking extra air in and oiling the air filter. I had a front seal totally sucked in on a briggs horiz that did the same thing. Mike

This makes absolutely no sense. The crankcase on a motor is pressurized. I have never in all my years mechanicing seen a crankshaft seal that was bad that didn't leak externally. It just isn't possible on these engines for a seal to allow air to "enter" the crankcase. It is possible however for the vent system to have a problem and cause the seal to blow out. The only way a crankcase to be under vacuum is if there is a problem with the intake system or vent system. Again, a crankcase is PRESSURIZED. If the cankcase was under vacuum, the natural design of a seal would let air in it anyway. You can't "suck a seal in" unless it was installed backwards, and the motor was under EXREME vacuum.
