Default K-341 governer / linkage setup

Is there any guide other than the engine manual that goes step by step how to configure the throttle cables/ springs as well as the governor. Had to dissassemble everything and now it's all funky.

I can only use about 1/4 of the throttle position on the tractor. It basically goes from nothing to wide open (and too fast) without using the full range of the throttle.

I also had to shorten the governer spring as it was about worn through. Might this be the cause of the issues?

not sure where to start, and when to attach the throttle cable to to the control bracket. At WOT or idle, ect.

No, there is no exact setting. The different holes are to make the governor more or less responsive. NO YOU CANNOT SHORTEN THE GOVERNOR SPRING!! You have to replace it!

I'm guessing that's my current issue.

I've got it adjusted so that it idles correctly, but when I throttle up the engine it get's to the top of the rev's when the linkage on the carb is only about a 1/3 open which is weird, I'd assume i'd die out from lack of fuel.

I also adjusted the governor linkage per the manual. held the linkage WOT, turned the shaft counter clockwise and tightened the adjusting nut.

the carb won't go wide open to run at 3600. it will as it accelerates then as you get to speed the governor backs off the throttle position of the carb to maintain 3600 . as the engine comes under load the throttle plate of the carb opens up. as that opens the air flow is increased . the vacuum created draws more fuel.

you don't need much air and fuel to maintain a set 3600 and that's how a governor works.

or maybe I don't understand the problem

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
