YES, I've been tinkering around with it a bit more today, and I'm certain the 72 is the one that is going to get the restore process. I've cleaned the carb a bit and reset it a smidge and it seems to run great now. no smoke whatsoever.. did just fine under a load when I cut a patch of grass with it. I think the more I run this fine machine the better it will perform.
General maintenance to come first so I can use it without worry and start the restore in a few weeks or so.
I will in the future be looking for some rear implements as well, so if any1 has some out there that aren't costing an arm and a leg so to speak (as I don't require perfect) please send me a PM and I will put it under consideration.
I would also like to get a set of lights for this as well as a creeper.
I definitely am keeping this 1 for the long term.
Cubs may come and cubs may go as I enjoy spreading the "cub infection", but this 1 is here to stay. I need to finally make one parade worthy. I am now the PROUD owner of a cub cadet 72. Love this machine

I do enjoy them very much. I've had quite a few already now. several quietlines, older wide frames and narrow frames as well. I just have learned soo much over last year and have really become quite addicted to the 70 and 100 series. Every 1 I tinker and play with gets better. I never try to make $ either when I sell them (sometimes I do), but it's more along the lines that I recoup my investment and find another 1 afterwards. The 72 is here to stay though.

have a great night

just got my 72 a few weeks ago and i really like it, gave me the motivation to fix up the ones i have already. i prefer the narrow frame cub cadets, just dont care for the looks of the wide frame ones......my favorite style is the 71, 100, 72

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
