Need some advice:
I've had issues with carb running rich on kohler 12hp. Last week it wouldn't start, despite turning over fine. I suspected no spark. Mechanic at cub dealer has it. Said it needs a new coil- which makes sense. He needs to pull engine to replace coil. This will take 2-3 hours labor. 3 questions: 1) Do you really need to pull the engine to replace the coil? 2) he recommends I replace 4 motor mounts @ $25 each as a precaution. Says he won't know for sure til he pulls the engine? Warned of expensive drivetrain problems that could result w/ bad mounts. 3) could the bad coil cause carb to run rich? Again- I'm no mechanic. My guy seems to really know cubs.... I'd appreciate any thoughts... Thanks! ![]() |

if the engine in the 1210 is a magnum yes then it does need to be pulled that has the cradle motor mount if you do replace the motor mounts DO NOT use the new ccc ones they are to hard and cause them to shake to much

1. Yes , as long as it is a Magnum engine
2. Your mechanic is right on all of this. 3. No. From my experience with Magnum coils , they just die. And they usually die when you are farthest from the house. I did have a coil on an 1811 that once it got hot and you shut the tractor off , it would not start again until it cooled off. Good Luck !!! |

Thanks guys. It is a '88 or '89 1210. I am pretty sure it is NOT a magnum.S/N 768752. There is no magnum markings on the engine. It has the older cast Iron Block.
Any ideas? It's an all stock - very clean- original... ![]() |

It would be a Magnum unless someone swapped it for the older K series engine.
The top of the blower housing on the Magnum is squared off versus the older K series is round. There should be a Magnum decal on the flat part of the blower housing facing the side panel of the tractor. The older K engines has the coil mounted on the outside of the engine , the Magnum is mounted under the blower housing. So if you see a coil , it is the older K series. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
