Unhappy What's the name of this part?

On my Lt-1042 there's a slim metal 'skid plate' on the bottom of the front of the deck. I've hit it on above-ground roots a couple times and have had to drill holes and put new screws in it to hold it on to the deck. Well, I just hit another root and this time the blades chewed it up pretty good. I don't see this part on my parts diagram in the owner's manual. Can you tell me what the proper name for it is and where I can purchase it?

Sounds like you are talking about a Deck Skirt.

Go to the Cub Cadet web site, find the service and parts link, enter your model number and you should be able to find what you are looking for.

Old racer term LOL something that is stupid expensive or as we called it Unubtainium. In Cub’s case they probably expect you to buy a new deck shell rather than replace a $2.00 piece of sheet metal.

I found it for $13.00. Other than maybe protecting the edge of the deck I really don't see its purpose. My LT 1042 was built prior to 2007, so I don't think the purpose is to 'make the grass pop back up against the blades for a more even cut' like the newer models. ?????

Wouldn't it just be a little easier to avoid roots and such obstacles instead of hammering up your mower deck? Just a thought.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
