Yes, a 108 came with a 10hp but a PO replaced with a 12hp. Gas tank probably just has the 12hp sticker on it. Not sure why you say tires and lights say it might not be a 108? The green stripe is correct also.
Get the serial# from the tractor(if it is still there) and we can tell for sure.
Looks like it has the electric lift also! Nice!

The motor #'s are saying its a 12hp as well and it takes 2 quarts of oil to fill it on an oil change.

You say "electric mower deck" I'm guessing you mean an electric pto but from the picture it looks like the pto actuator rod is still in place, so that leads me to believe that you mean electric lift on the mower deck. You also say "electric sleeve hitch" When what you actually mean is electric lift with a three point hitch and sleeve hitch adapter.

Not sure I understand "12hp gas tank" unless there is a 12hp decal on the end of the tank like the Narrow Frame tractors had.

What makes you believe that "it has bigger tires than a 108 comes with"?

You also say something about something that "Does not seem to work" not sure what that is about either.

Once again we need some more pictures... Just cant seem to get a mental picture from your descriptions.

Tire sizes is the same as a 128 engine as well. Guess the real question is, Is there any way a 108 would come with 12hp and wider tires like a 128? Yes there is a decal on the tank that says 12hp. The hitch and mower deck works off the same factory lever.

The REAL question is: How many previous owners has this tractor had in the past 39 to 42 years AND what modifications did they make?

The "10" in 108 indicates a 10 hp engine. If it came from the factory with a 12 hp engine they would have badged it a 128. So no, a 108 model tractor did not come with a 12 hp engine.

I'm not going to waste my time looking up tire sizes just so I can say with 100% certainty that the tire sizes on the 1X8/9 series tractors were all the same and/or at the time one could buy a new Wide Frame series tractor with any tire size that they wanted providing it was available from IH at the time, but I'm pretty sure that was the case.

There are literally dozens of people here who are more than happy to answer nearly any question that you may have about ANYTHING Cub Cadet, however no one here can answer any question about anything without some basic information. If you want to know what your tractor originally was, then WE NEED A SERIAL NUMBER. Why are you balking about that?

AND if you want to know what kind of previous owner modifications have been made, then we need more pictures.

Here, I'll make this real simple for you. It IS a Cub Cadet 108 Garden Tractor. By the looks of the pictures it has the correct green stripe. It has the optional electric lift that was installed in place of the manual lift handle. There should be a little lift arm sticking out the side of the right frame rail near where your right foot would rest. That is for lifting front mount implements. Tire sizes ARE CORRECT for a 108. Engine wise, What happened was (like was mentioned above) someone blew up the 10hp, didn't fix it, and added a 12hp engine into it. All the 1x8/9 series had the large tank on it like yours does. It is very common to find tractors without their original motor. Since there are so many of these tractors around people would often swap motors in a pair of them to gain an extra horse or two, or to get rid of their smokey engine.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
