I have a 10hp 108. I want to add a Fumo quick drain plug. It has a hose attachment to make this messy process a lot less messy. To order it I need to know the side of the plug.

Not knowing what any of the previous owners may have done to your tractor, I would pull the drain plug and measure the threds to be sure so you get the right part.

It is original. Would rather just order the correct size in front of a change. But, thank you. I do believe it is 3/8.

For the most part Kohler engines use a standard pipe plug. If your plug has a square head that is most likely what it is. If I recall correctly it has what they call NPT threads and is for use in 1/2 inch pipe. NPT is National Pipe Thread and is quite common.

Very Nice Looking Tractor! Original, OK, 40 years old, OK. I think I'd waist a quart of oil over the price of a Fumo quick drain plug to make sure I was ordering the right part in the first place. I understand trying to SAVE A BUCK but I can't see anyone, Taking a Guess 1/4"NPT, DON'T BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU READ ON THE INTERNET.

There you go! What is it? 1/4", 3/8", or 1/2" ? Take it out and measure!!!

Wasting Mobil I, I don't think so. The Fumo has a 3/8 NPT and I am pretty sure that is what it is. The real pain in this tractor is that I have to remove a plate to get to the valve and that plate is a complete pain to get off. I may just take it off and leave it of although I am loath to do any modifying on something I spent a year bringing back to life from a dead hulk parts pile spread out over a half acre . By and By I am pretty stupid and the restoration was a very slow process. This was a touch and feel process and I don't even know how to measure thread so that should give some indication from where I have begun. You should have ben around when I was taking apart the rear end and the motor. "hey Annie, what do you think this metal thing is? I think it's made out of iron or something"

Since alternate ideas are coming up...
I cut the top off of a 7.62x54R ammo "spam can" to use as a drain pan for cubs. It works awesome. It slips in between the deck and the motor, but I usually change the oil with the deck off anyhow. For me, it's only 1-2 times a year anyhow. A cut down gatorade/milk/whatever jug also works well (if changing cold oil). The ammo can is a metal version and is good for hot changes. I would think a cookie tin or anything that fits in there would be fine and should cost way less than $30 for the fumoto. But... If you have your heart set on it, there are 2 ways to determine thread size... Pull the plug, take it to the hardware store and see what mating thread fits it, or use a thread gauge. I recommend option 1 since it's free if you don't have a thread gauge. |
